Welsh SUP Athletes Make Waves at Head of the Dart Challenge

The 2025 stand-up paddleboarding season has kicked off in spectacular style, with Welsh athletes putting in a stellar performance at the prestigious Head of the Dart (HOTD) SUP Challenge in South Devon.

Visit the HOTD webpage HERE.

Widely recognised as the UK’s largest SUP event, HOTD draws over 250 paddlers from across the country, including many of the sport’s top elite racers. This year’s 14km race, tracing the stunning River Dart between Totnes and Dartmouth, once again proved to be a true test of endurance, strategy, and grit.

Wales was well represented—and well rewarded—with podium finishes across multiple categories:

Emily Evans powered her way to a 3rd place finish in the Women’s Distance division, showing impressive early-season form.

Joe Jones mirrored that success on the men’s side, taking 3rd place in the Men’s Distance race against a highly competitive field.

These results mark a promising start to the 2025 season for Welsh SUP athletes and highlight the growing strength and depth of talent within the nation’s paddling community.

The Welsh Surfing Federation congratulates all the athletes who competed and looks forward to following their continued success throughout the year.

Pob lwc to all our paddlers for the season ahead—this is just the beginning!
